Denon AVR-X6800H AV Receiver First Look

It’s that time of the year – new AV receiver time. To no one’s surprise, Denon has announced the AVR-X6800H, the successor to the AVR-X6700. Priced at $3499, and not available till 2024, could this be your next AV receiver? Let’s discuss.

Under The Hood

The Denon AVR-X6800H boasts 11.4 channels of amplification, with processing for 13.4 available with an external amplifier. As expected, the X6800H has seven, full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports, giving you HDMI ARC, VRR, and ALLM. Couple that with full 8K HDR, Dolby Vision, and HGL support, and you will get the most out of your next-gen devices.

To power the 11.4 channels onboard, you get 140wpc (2 channels driven). Object-based audio is of course front and center with Atmos, DTS:X, Auro 3D, and IMAX Enhanced as available sound modes. For those with legacy content, don’t worry. Denon has included Dolby Surround, DTS Neutral:X, and Auro-Matic up-mixers.

And to get the most out of your space, you get all the flavors of room correction. This includes Audyssey MultEQ XT32 for free with Audyssey MultEQ-X and Dirac Live for an additional licensing fee.

And being a Denon, you get full HEOS support and access to all the music streaming services like Tidal, Spotify, Airplay 2, and Roon.

Our Take

At $3499, the Denon AVR-X6800H is not what we would consider budget-friendly. But for what you get, (11.4 onboard/13.4 processed channels, 140WPC, all the latest audio codecs, and nearly every flavor of room correction), it’s not unreasonable. For those who need or want an expanded setup, the Denon AVR-X6800H might be your next AV receiver.
